Mortefonica

Album, NOVEMBER 2016

In 2016 the birthplace of TOUR's grandmother in the small town of Zutendaal (Belgium)  would be demolished. Once the epicentre of the village as a blacksmith and a cafe, the house had to make place for yet another ambitious housing project. Inspired by the famous New Orleans jazz funerals and the Western European fanfare tradition, TOUR made 10 songs describing the life of his grandmother, the house and the village. An ode to his grandmother (who died 10 years ago) and a soundtrack to the demolition and burial of the house. A celebration of life and death.

Together with a 14 piece brass band (The Kroensel Krewe) and producer Micha Volders (Blurred Seasons, Meteor Musik, Fence) the songs were recorded live in the house on June 4th 2016. The album was presented as a jazz funeral at the house on November 20th 2016.

TOUR (vocals, ukulele, guitar),  Terry Bekx (bass drum), Dienne Bogaerts (vocals, glockenspiel), Guy Cardeynaels (banjo), Zander Dreesen (trombone), Loes Gerits (vocals, glockenspiel), Niels Hendrix (vocals), Bert Hornikx (snare drum, percussion), Kristof Huskens (souzaphone), Jo Ieven(trumpet), Tjeu Martens (trumpet), Gert Stinckens (vocal, percussion), Lesley Troquet - Wouters (wash drum, vocals), Harald Vanherf (vocals, percussion)

Recorded live in the Blacksmith's Forge, Sweet Valley, Belgium on June 4th 2016
Produced by Micha Volders
Released by FONS Records on November 25th 2016

Happy Birthday Philicorda / Rest In Peace Kid Baltan

Album, IN PROGRESS

In 1963 the Gloeilampen-fabrieken Philips in Eindhoven designed one of the first electronic organs for the masses: the Philicorda. An important element in the development of the Philicorda were the experiments of Dick Raaijmakers (1930-2013), a Dutch pioneer in the field of electronic music and tape music, who used the name Kid Baltan as a musical alter ego. In the next 30 years the Philicorda was further developed and built at the Philips plant in Hasselt, Belgium and became one of the most popular organs in the world.
2015. The Philicorda has turned 50. Time for a celebration of the instrument and for a tribute to a true musical pioneer. TOUR and Brom Tok, both experimental musicians based in Hasselt, work together on a music album, using the Philicorda as the only sound source and Kid Baltan as a spiritual guide. In the summer of 2015 they set up a musical laboratory at the former Philips plant in Kiewit, Hasselt and on September 12th 2015 they presented the test results to an audience.

Fagnards

Album and film, 2013

On January 22 1871, Marie Solheid and François Reiff took off to Marie’s native village to settle their marriage. They decided to take the shortest route: across the High Fens, a rough and dangerous nature area with unpredictable weather conditions and a long and dark history of strange dissapearances. They would never reach their goal: the couple died in the middle of the Fens, desorientated and struck with hypothermia.
TOUR wrote four songs describing the love tragedy and together with female singer Dienne Bogaerts, producer Luuk Cox, camera man Martijn Pillards and costume designer Branko Popoviç he recorded the songs in a small chapel not far from the location of the Lover's Cross. The recordings were filmed and together with images and field recordings from the area they are the backbone for Fagnards, a strange mix bewteen nature documentary, music video and drama film.
The film was presented
in february 2013 on a bus trip  to the High Fens with live versions of the songs at various locations of the film and a presentation of the film at the nature centre at Botrange.
Go to the Fagnards website, listen to the tracks on TOUR's Bandcamp.

Paris Qui Dort

Live soundtrack FOR a SILENT film, 2012

TOUR and the APP Ensemble play live music to the silent movie Paris Qui Dort, the debut of the French cineast René Clair from 1925. The film is one of the first science fiction films and tells the story of a crazy scientist who freezes the city of Paris with a strange machine. A few people aren't affected by the machine and start looting in the city... The music is a combination of pop, musique concrète, weird electronics from exotic boxes and jazzy experiment and is played live by TOUR and the APP Ensemble. The Ambient Pulp Pioneers Ensemble or APP Ensemble is Dienne Bogaerts, Bert Hornikx, Martijn Pillards, Gert Stinckens, Tom Tritsmans, Micha Volders.

1977

SONG COLLECTION, ongoing

1977. The year Elvis and Charlie Chaplin die and the personal computer is born. The year of Close Encounters Of The Third Kind and Centre Pompidou. But most of all, a great year in musical history! With punk in it’s puberty, disco dementing and the rise of electronic instruments the year was a magical period in which some of the most interesting pop albums in history were made.
“1977” Is the growing result of a one day collaboration between Tour and one other musician, in which they record one song from a 1977 pop album. Each song is accompanied with a poster. Collaborations with Gert Stinckens, Martijn Pillards and Niek Kosten.

Osaka

Album, 2011

In november 2010 Tour travelled to Osaka (Japan) to make field recordings of the city and its outskirts. Following rules of the great composer Matthew Herbert he made seven songs using only these samples. The songs describe Osaka by day and by night. Each song is accompanied by a postcard. The songs were played live in april 2011 on a headphone concert in the Japanese Garden of Hasselt, Belgium. With the voices of Dienne Bogaerts, Gert Stinckens, Tom Tritsmans and Jonas Wellens.

E40 / Keep Well To The West

Album and blog, ongoing

Together with several video artists and photographers TOUR is making a trilogy of pop albums describing the journey along Europe's longest highway E40, running from Calais in the north of France to Ridder in Kazachstan, near the Chinese border. About 8500km. Mankind moving along or halting on the aorta of Europe is the central theme throughout the music. In 2009 TOUR completed the first etappe of the journey, from Calais to the border of Ukraine, together with photographer Rob Walbers and video artist Pieter Geenen. Discover pictures, video and music on TOUR's E40 Travelogue.
Due to the unstable ituation in Ukraine, the second part of the journey is postponed.
